Or the city’s Locarno Hotel, now Wilson’s nightclub?
A Horsham woman unearthed an old print edition of the Wimmera Mail-Times while cleaning this week, and stories about both businesses featured on the front page.
The plaza’s third birthday was mentioned, along with plans to add a supermarket to the complex.
But the lead story in the September 6, 1989, edition of the paper was about the Liquor Licensing Commission ruling the Locarno Hotel could trade until 5am on Saturdays and Sundays.
The article read:
“The unanimous decision was a rebuff for Horsham City Council, which strongly opposes liquor sales at hotels and restaurants after 3am.”
“Locarno Hotel proprietors Peter and Denise Carter had fought for the right to trade until 7am.”
The 5am trading no doubt led to more than a few sore heads over the years.
