The Baggies played well in the first and final quarter of the Horsham District Football League round seven encounter, but the Mountain Men’s consistency was too good and ensured a big win.
Swifts coach Scott Carey said he was pleased with his side’s intensity.
“We put great pressure on and made them turn the ball over,” he said.
“But they’re a quality outfit who found a way to get back on top of us. We were able to create a bit of an arm wrestle.”
Adam Leslie played a smart game across half back for the Baggies, repelling the Mountain Men’s forward movement and counteracting with drive.
Sean Mantell was another standout for the Baggies.
“Week in and week out Sean is hard in and under for us,” Carey said.
Conditions were difficult for both sides, with a heavy oval and a greasy ball to contend with.
Carey said his side would work on continuing its final-quarter pressure in future games.
“If the boys work well together on that pressure, then we’re able to mix it with the best teams,” he said.
“We’ll keep on that path and the wins should come.”
Laharum coach Shannon Argall said the game was particularly physical, but his side managed to stay the course.
“We were able to open it up with better skill execution and discipline,” he said.
“We kicked most of our goals in the third and it was really pleasing to keep up that potential.”
Argall took a positional gamble by moving Rhys Bennett from his usual centre half-forward position to centre half-back, which paid off for the Mountain Men.
Joe Harrison and Jack Shields were standouts in Laharum’s forward line.
Laharum continue to change their team up as they include young guns each week.
