Both Mininera football and the senior netball teams were successful, bringing home the AFL Vic Country Cups attached with bragging rights.
A number of highlights and individual performances stood out, particularly Lachlan Glare’s second quarter effort.
Glare kicked five goals that enabled Mininera to get back in the game while William McGregor’s three goals in the final three minutes of the game brought home victory.
Football supporters were entertained with exposure to a great game of Australian Rules played in the right spirit.
It was umpired exceptionally by the personnel from the umpire’s academy.
Should Mininera play interleague in 2017, it will meet Mid-Gippsland.
But if changes to interleague occur, such a incorporating five zones, then Mininera could be drawn to play in the Western area.
However, this has not been fully discussed as yet.
Junior carnival
On Sunday, the Western Area Junior Carnival was held at Hamilton.
It was a gathering of the best under-16, under-14 and under-12 from a wide area of Western Victoria. Although Mininera was unsuccessful in winning their divisions.
Andrew Fry won the medal as best for Mininera in the under-16 division. He capped off the day by winning the best performed player of the under-16 carnival competition.
Round seven
Football is back to normality this Saturday, with three games that may influence the finals hopes and positions of clubs.
The main game is the grand final replay between Tatyoon and Lismore-Derrinallum (5th v 3rd). Meanwhile, Wickliffe-Lake Bolac take on Glenthompson Dunkeld (1st v 7th) while Woorndoo-Mortlake faces Moyston-Willaura.
This is a danger game for the Tigers (8th) and Pumas (6th) - both are equal on points and one game out of the five.
