Ryan Bates has a sore knee and will miss, while Jacob Hamilton is suffering from a lower leg injury and Gordon Laurie is out with hip flexor issues. Josh Rathgeber has work commitments.
However, ruckman Andrew Pickles and defender James Stapleton are set to return to the side. Pickles’ inclusion will give the Rats a much-needed boost in the absence of Laurie.
Rats coach David Hosking is trying his best to remain positive ahead of his side’s date with the Demons. Last time they met, Horsham clawed its back from a five goal deficit to win by 22 points.
“Our playing personnel is a bit down compared to the first round,” Hosking said.
“Again, the opportunity is there for someone to step up and fill in the breach. We’ve got some good, young developing players.”
Rats assistant coach Brady Miller and Stephen Phillips have returned to their best, while Aidan Moar and Liam Arnott are continuing to develop. Hosking has also been pleased by the performances of Tom Mills as the season progresses.
The Rats notched up their first win for 2016 prior to the interleague break, against Dimboola. It is hoped they can carry this confidence into Saturday’s match.
