THE Country Fire Authority is investigating a blaze that damaged a Stawell home on Thursday morning.
The authority’s district 16 operations officer Archie Conroy said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire, which started at a home in Mahnke Street after 9am.
He said crews had the fire under control in about 20 minutes, but remained on scene for a couple of hours mopping up.
He said the home was extensively damaged and was unliveable.
He said no one was home at the time of the incident.

A HOUSE fire in Mahnke Street, Stawell, is now safe.
Two Country Fire Authority crews remain on scene mopping up.
The authority is investigating the cause of the blaze, which started after 9am on Thursday.
The authority issued a hazardous material warning for the incident for potential asbestos, but has deemed the site safe.
10.30am Thursday
A HOUSE fire at Stawell is under control.
The fire started in Mahnke Street after 9am on Thursday.
An Ambulance Victoria media spokeswoman said officers were called to the scene about 10.10am to treat someone for smoke inhalation, but could not provide further details.
She said officers were still at the scene.
10.01am Thursday
EMERGENCY services are responding to a reported building fire at Stawell.
The Country Fire Authority incident website listed a small incident in Mahnke Street just after 9am on Thursday.
Four vehicles are at the scene and the fire is not yet under control.
The authority’s district 16 operations officer Archie Conroy said the authority did not believe anyone was home at the time of the blaze.
He said crews would remain on the scene for some time.
He said a hazardous material warning was also issued for the incident.
“Any time there is a fire at an old house there is the potential for asbestos,” he said.
