The defensive work around the court made it hard for Minyip-Murtoa to penetrate into their forward line and time and time again Stawell shut their opponents down. Melita Squire played a fantastic game at wing attack considering it was her first time at this position and together with Tessa O’Callaghan in the centre they intercepted everything that came their way.
Stawell got the better of Minyip Murtoa in the under 17s where they won by three goals.
Tash Reading and Jessie Cowen were the strongest performers.
Stawell’s defensive pressure from all players saw a tight game where Stawell were able to pull away and win. Tash Reading played a brilliant game in defence intercepting and rebounding well while Jessie Cowen provided a steadying drive down the court into attack.
The players combined well as a team and are feeling more confident moving into the next round.
The winning trend continued in the C grade as Warriors agains defeated Minyip Murtoa. Emma Dwyer was accurate in the goal ring while Darcie Jelly’s work rate saw her rewarded.
Stawell B grade didn’t play their best game but definitely showed some good passages of play and when Stawell can play like that for an entire game they will be a hard side to beat. Tracey Dark and Kristy Matthews were the best players on the day.
The A grade played a fast paced physical match which saw several injuries occur. Under 17 players Tash Reading and Jessie Cowen were forced to take the court. As a result of the injuries Stawell went down 27-52. Kellie Sommerville was Stawell’s best player.
