The teams battled in hot conditions at Caramut, and it was a competitive match despite the eventual scoreline. Defence for both teams was very strong with Caramut goal keeper, Shael Downs, picking off many passes in the goal circle.
Increased pressure from Caramut wing defence, Hannah Delaney also helped the defenders repel many attacks from a tall Tatyoon.
Similar to Caramut, it was Tatyoon’s defence of Zoe Astbury and Simone King that proved the difference with their height and anticipation. The pair denied Caramut goalies the opportunity to score.
Maggie Astbury and Brooke Williamson were named Tatyoon’s top players in the 39-12 victory.
Despite the loss, Caramut’s Jocelyn Williams was brilliant as coach and clever as well. Shael Downs and Jorgia Dempster received best on court for the home side.
Great Western welcomed Penshurst in what was a spirited contest.
Penshurst proved to be the stronger side, and is currently sitting third on the Association ladder.
Great Western tried hard with the help of three B grade players. Kim Shalders received Great Western’s best on court honours, while Penny Mather stood tall for Penshurst.
Penshurst ran out 68-20 winners.
Glenthompson/Dunkeld played host to SM&W Rovers. Rams’ goalies Madison Kelly and Sarah Alderman worked beautifully with an added boost from Jo Arnott in the last quarter. Nicki Lowe and Sue Balkin-Mitchell turned over countless balls in the Rams’ defence.
Trusty mid court players Laura Pyke, Jules Templeton and Jess Parker moved the ball smoothly and quickly from defence for the Rams. Lowe was best on court for her defensive effort while Kelly bagged 50 goals to also be recognised.
Best players for the Bulldogs were Joanne Read and Phillipa Webb. Glenthompson-Dunkeld were comfortable winners against the Bulldogs, 77-37.
Wickliffe-Lake Bolac and Ararat Eagles clashed at Lake Bolac. Wickliffe-Lake Bolac played well as a team and started strongly against the visitors.
Ararat Eagles continued to fight and improved each quarter but in the end, the Magpies took away the win 55-34.
Best players for Wickliffe-Lake Bolac were Kerrie Dendle and Amanda Clark. Tayla Notting and Abby Driscoll were fine performers in the mid-court, earning themselves Ararat Eagles’ top honours.
In other Mininera netball matches, Hawkesdale-Macarthur were defeated by Woorndoo-Mortlake 58-20 while Moyston- Willaura accounted for Lismore-Derrinallum 40-24.
