The Horsham Integrated Transport Strategy committee hosted its second meeting in April.
The strategy’s main aims are to examine congestion issues in and near the city centre, connections to residential growth areas, and how a proposed Horsham bypass will affect links to regional highways.
Committee chairman and Horsham Rural City councillor David Grimble said the meeting focused on confirming the strategy’s objectives, and building on a workshop at the first meeting.
“The first meeting identified a broad range of issues, opportunities and constraints that needed to be considered in development of the strategy,” he said.
“A series of small workshops within the meeting identified different means of addressing these issues, which had been grouped into themes by the consultants.
“The six themes explored were the Horsham bypass, river crossings and bridges, connectivity and congestion, land use planning, trucks in Horsham township and the railway station and rail alignment.”
Cr Grimble said since then, Robert Kelm had joined the group as a transport industry representative, and school bus co-ordinator Megan Merlo was also added.
He said people could visit hrcc.vic.gov.au/integrated-transport-strategy to see meeting minutes and background papers.
Cr Grimble said people could write to council via HRCC, PO Box 511, Horsham Vic, 3402, or email council@hrcc.vic.gov.au to provide feedback for the strategy.
Council hopes to finish the strategy by July.
