The Tigers made it three wins from five games on Saturday when they defeated Dimboola Roos by 47 points, 15.13 (103) to 8.8 (56).
While the first half proved to be tough for both teams, Nhill was able to steady first and secure the win.
Nhill coach Alan Bennett said it was a hard fought win that the club was pleased with.
“It was a real arm wrestle early,” Bennett said.
“They put heaps of pressure on and made it really difficult, but we knew that would be the case. It opened up a little after half time and then we got the better of them.”
The scores were level at half time at 26-points apiece.
Bennet said Nhill made a concerted effort to play its brand of football.
Nathan Sachse continued his strong form with another game where he was named in the best.
The defender showed his experience and cool head under pressure and, while Nhill was struggling to find the scoreboard, its defence stood strong.
Bennett said the draw had a lot to do with the team’s early success. He said the next five weeks would be an “acid test”.
Bennett said the feeling around the club was exciting for players and supporters, but he was wary that expectations could cause problems on-field.
“Expectations are a dangerous thing,” he said.
“I want the boys to be motivated by the hatred of losing, not the ecstasy that comes from winning.”
Maddy Hayes, Jake Harrap and Jordan Zeitz were the best for Nhill while Jackson O’Neill, Ben Miller and Allistair McKinnon were Dimboola’s best.
