The Eagles were soundly beaten by ladder-leaders Wickliffe-Lake Bolac, with the Magpies running out comprehensive winners 19.19 (133) to 2.3 (15) at Lake Bolac.
Barry Robertson scored the Eagles’ only two majors for the day, and was also named as one of Ararat’s best afield.
Aaron Jenkins, Brent Bulger and Justin Coole were named as the side’s best performers.
Great Western did not fare much better than the Eagles in their match against league heavyweights Penshurst, going down to the Bombers 26.19 (175) to 8.1 (49).
In spite of the heavy defeat, Samuel Cocks managed to put in an impressive display, booting five of the Lion’s eventual eight goals.
Zachary McLeod, Rayne Salmon and Jay English also got on the score sheet amidst the whitewash.
Luke Notting, Lachlan Molloy, Anthony Bourke and Adam Bullock were given best on ground honours.
