After a year of competitive riding, Auston is currently sitting fifth in the state with two Victorian titles rounds remaining.
Auston competes in the junior division two 50 class and in 2017, the eight year old will rise up to 65.
He is currently ranked sixth in the western region. It could have been higher, however Auston crashed in Warrnambool and unfortunately didn't compete in his last race for the day.
At the Vic titles, Auston finished fifth overall in Korumburra and fourth at the Warrnambool meeting that was held on Sunday.
He placed third in his first event at Warrnambool, recovered from two crashes in the second event to finish sixth and claimed fourth in his final event for the afternoon. Auston placed fourth overall.
Mother Cristie Boyd said she had to stop watching when Auston’s crashes occurred.
“I walked away,” she said, adding it had been a long year since he started competing.
Despite the dangerous nature of the sport, the eight year old explains his passion for motocross.
“I like racing because its fun and i have made so many friends. I like to feel as though I am flying when I do big jumps and the adrenaline kicks in at the start gate,” Auston said.
Auston received his first bike aged two, a pee wee 50 and since then has gone on to bigger and better things since his first race at Ararat in April 2015.
The youngster also has high ambitions. Almost every weekend, Auston travels to compete, whether its at a club day somewhere, Vic title or Western Region Series meeting.
“By the end of the year, I want to be top three in the Victorian titles and number one for western region,” Auston said.
In September, Auston will compete at the Australian titles held in Renmark, South Australia. The titles go for a week – September 24 to October 1 – and the eight year old hopes to come home with a top 10 finish.
The Western Region Motocross Series is held across several towns in the area, including Ararat, Horsham, Ballarat, Portland and Warrnambool.
The next meeting is in Ballarat on Sunday, May 15. Motorcyclists will be in Horsham on July 10 and the final round is held in Ararat over the weekend of August 13 and 14.
Ararat is hosting the next round of Vic titles on Sunday, May 8 and the final round is in Mildura on June 11.
There is also an Ararat Motorcycle Club day being held this Sunday, April 17.
