BIRDS of prey will be given sanctuary, rehabilitation and repair under a new facility established at the Trowunna Wildlife Park.

The facility was formally opened on Monday, in partnership with TasNetworks.
It includes a walk-through rehabilitation centre, off-display repair centre, hospital muse and a large-scale wedge-tailed eagle free-flight aviary.
Wedge-tailed eagles and other birds of prey will be housed at the facility.
Emily Duggan, sanctuary manager at Trowunna, said the facility had been on Trowunna’s strategic plan for a while.
“There’s a few [bird of prey facilities] throughout the state, but certainly not one that has the multi-levelled rescue rehabilitation process,” she said.
Ms Duggan said four out of the five birds in care were classified as endangered under state law, and had arrived recently.
TasNetworks CEO Lance Balcombe said the facility would offset the impact of threatened bird species suffering electrocution from power lines.
