This competition has been going now for a couple of years at the club, and has proven to be very popular among people who have not really played bowls before but are willing to give it a try.
Competition begins Thursday, February 18 at 6:30 pm and cost is $6 per player, per night. The competition runs for just six weeks and each week finishes with a barbecue at around 9 pm.
The concept of Forty/40 is taken from Twenty20 cricket in that it involves power plays and revolving playing positions.
It is fast moving and a lot of fun.
In the past, the club has had teams enter from workplaces around Ararat who are looking for some team building fun – and rivalry.
Each team can have as many members as they like but only three can play on any given night, which gives people some flexibility if they can’t commit for every night across the six weeks.
Casual dress and attitude required. The club has plenty of bowls available for use at no charge, participants just need flat soled shoes. New and inexperienced bowlers are most welcome to come down and have a go.
There is a prize – each week a card is drawn from the hat to determine the winners for that evening and they will receive three meal vouchers for Sicilians Restaurant. Once a team has won however, they go into the “win bin” and are excluded from future draws.
