Ararat Leading Senior Constable Narelle Smart said the incident happened about 5.45pm.
“We didn’t actually get a report,” she said.
“A train has gone through, and the truck driver has become impatient and has gone across the railway line and clipped one of the boom gates before it’s gone all the way up.
“He continued on – he might not have even realised he hit it.
“But it caused the other boom gate to come down and the lights to come on again.
“At that time of day the roundabout was quite busy, and that caused a traffic build-up.”
VicRoads issued a traffic alert for the incident just before 6pm. The incident was resolved shortly after.
