Stars from the Collingwood Football Club will conduct a range of activities at Alexandra Oval and around Ararat over two days on Tuesday, February 9 and Wednesday, February 10.
The Australia Post Community Camps focus on meeting fans and developing stronger links between Australian Football and the community.
In recognising that grassroots football and the community are the lifeblood of ‘Australia’s Game’, the 2016 Australia Post AFL Community Camps will have a renewed focus on school visits while also undertaking AFL super clinics and training sessions in the community and for local coaches.
The Collingwood Football Club has always had a strong connection with Ararat, dating back to the old VFL recruiting zones, which helped the Pies land Hall of Fame player Barry Price and 150-game veteran Rene Kink.
Ararat Rural City mayor, Cr Paul Hooper said he was absolutely thrilled that Collingwood has chosen Ararat as the destination for its 2016 Community Camp.
“While I am a devoted Geelong supporter, having the biggest club in the AFL visit the region is very exciting and a massive coup for us,” he said.
“The Magpies always attracted plenty of media attention and it will be a great opportunity for Ararat to showcase the fantastic facility we now have at Alexandra Oval.
“We have plenty of exciting events planned over the two days of the camp and it would be great to see as many football fans as possible involved.”
Specific details regarding the 2016 Australia Post AFL Community Camp in Ararat will be announced in the coming weeks.
