The volunteers recognised at these awards have made significant contributions to our communities.
In many instances they provide guidance to other volunteers, whilst individually undertaking their tasks selflessly and without the purpose of material gain.
It was great to see so many participate in the White Ribbon walk from J-Ward to the Alexandra Gardens on Wednesday.
This was our second White Ribbon Day event within the Ararat Rural City municipality as a signatory to this important campaign.
By participating, our community showed that we will not sit on the sidelines and let violence against women continue to happen.
As signatories to the White Ribbon campaign, we as a municipality have declared we will work towards raising awareness of this issue and changing the behaviours and attitudes which have left many women suffering in silence for too long.
I look forward to next Wednesday night when we will host the 2015-16 Grampians Pyrenees Business Awards Gala Awards Dinner to celebrate the fantastic work of the businesses we have in our region.
There have been more than 85 entries and locals will rub shoulders with the region’s high achievers across 13 different award categories.
I am sure our very own businesses will be right in the mix and we have a lot to be proud of.
The importance of awards like these cannot be over-emphasised enough.
They give the opportunity for businesses to promote themselves and be recognised for their achievements and celebrate their innovation and energetic approach to business growth.
