VicRoads Regional Director Ewen Nevett said windy weather may be particularly severe across areas of Western Victoria.
"I remind motorists to stay alert and drive to the conditions, particularly around construction areas where dust may create poor visibility," he said.
"Obey speed limits, particularly on the Western Highway between Beaufort and Buangor, as dust from the construction area is likely to blow across the highway.
"Our contractors are using water carts on high-wind days to minimise dust, however I ask people to be alert, slow down or pull over if visibly is poor.
"Please also be mindful that we expect wet weather this week, including hail, which should be a prompt for people to slow down on our roads."
Mr Nevett said driving in windy or wet weather can make it harder to drive safely and motorists are urged to match their driving to the weather conditions.
“Leave a greater distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front,” he said.
“Use low beam headlights during the day if poor weather reduces visibility.
“Be alert for other road users who may be difficult to see, such as motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians.
“If the rain is too heavy for your wipers to cope, the best course of action is to pull over and wait until visibility improves.
“Traffic slows during windy and wet weather and that’s a good thing – people need to drive to the conditions.
“Secure your load; Keep an eye out for falling debris.
“Keep your car roadworthy – in particular, check tyres, windscreen wipers and brake lights on a regular basis.
“Most importantly – be patient.”
