A Recruitment Information Night will be held on Tuesday at the Ararat VICSES Unit Headquarters located at 85-87 High Street from 7pm.
The evening is for anyone interested in helping out their community, meeting new people, developing professional skills, or getting their boat and truck licence and gaining nationally recognised qualifications from the Public Safety Training Package.
VICSES Ararat Unit members respond to storm damage, flood operations, land searches, rescue boat operations and road crash rescues, as well as assisting other agencies such as police and CFA.
There are many ways that unit members contribute and participate in these activities.
Operational Support Members can help with unit activities and operations in many ways.
These can range from providing administrative support during an incident to delivering supplies to the crews in the fields, or assisting in community engagement activities.
Operational Members undertake all operational tasks that they are qualified and competent to perform.
VICSES provides free nationally recognised training in numerous fields such as Leadership, Emergency Management, Media, Community Education and Communications.
There are also nationally accredited courses in roof top safety, road crash rescue, traffic management, chainsaw operation and four wheel drive operation.
There is no cost to join the organisation. All it takes is a little bit of time to undergo training on a weekly basis to maintain skills.
The Ararat VICSES Unit trains on Tuesday nights weekly, commencing at 7.30pm.
If you can't get along to the Recruitment Information Night but would like to learn more about becoming an SES volunteer, contact Ararat Unit Controller Donna Dunmore on 0448 053 886.
