ARARAT - The Ararat Turf Club will hold its first race meeting of the 2012/13 season this Friday.
The eight card event will be the only Victorian meeting for the day, with Friday night racing not commencing at Moonee Valley until grand final eve next week.
It is a country showcase meeting that will feature two $30,000 races, with the remainder being $17,500 races.
There is also a Super Vobis 3YO maiden which has a breeders' bonus of $9,000 added to the $17,500 prize money, which is sure make for some quality racing and attract horses from the city stables.
The races start at 12.45pm and will be a great way to kick off a great weekend of sport, which included the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday along with blockbuster preliminary finals in the AFL.
The Ararat Turf Club has been working hard over winter to improve customer facilities, with a concrete path installed behind the grandstand and betting ring allowing for better access the take away food provided by sponsor Ararat Bakery.
The club has also removed further old railing from the outside of the track and replaced it with more modern railing.
The track is looking very good and with the rain and hopefully good spring weather will be spot on for this race meeting.
This year's NMIT Ararat Gold Cup will be held on Sunday November 11.

Even more free kids activities will be held at this year's meeting, which will make for a great day out for family and friends.
Racing enthusiasts can also purchase Ararat/Wimmera Racing memberships for the forthcoming season for $55, which will see you get into all the Wimmera Country Cups including NMIT Ararat Gold Cup, Great Western and Stawell Easter Cup, as well as all midweek race meets.
