Belonging to Don Smith, 11 year-old Border Collie Jack moved into the complex a month ago.
It is the first time the Ararat Retirement Village has been home to a dog. Village chief executive officer, Robyn Woods-Gebler, said he was extremely well-behaved.
"Don lived in our independent living units, and only agreed to come into care if Jack came too," she said.
Jack is a hit among residents, although there is someone who dislikes him.
"The only resident not that keen on him is the cat, but he's slowly getting over it," Mrs Woods-Gebler said.
Mr Smith was moved into a room where Jack could have a special fenced-off yard.
"We were really after Jack – Don just came with him," Mrs Woods-Gebler joked.
