Health service board president Matthew Wood said Mr Bush has been reappointed because of his previous strong performance and commitment to implementing the board’s new Strategic Plan.
Mr Wood commended Mr Bush on his previous five years of successfully implementing the board’s vision of developing a teaching health service.
The results have included the $800,000 refurbishment of Pyrenees House into an Education and Training Centre, and the Diploma of Nurse Training, in conjunction with Federation University.
Ararat has also become a teaching faculty for final year dental students.
This year EGHS hosted eight fifth year students for a rotational 19 week placement.
During this period students performed a range of simple to complex dental treatments under supervision.
The dental students have also conducted dental assessments in aged care.
EGHS has also taken on medical interns for the first time.
Mr Wood said the health service board is looking forward to Mr Bush implementing the EGHS strategic plan and working towards improving the health of the community.
A key component of the plan will be the continued strengthening and further development of the birthing services, early years and family services and also improving the services to residents in aged care facilities.
“I am delighted to be contracted for a further five years,” Mr Bush said.
“It is reassuring for my family that we are staying in a community that we enjoy so much and I look forward to implementing the strategies of the board over the next five years.”
The extensions to the Community Health Centre to include maternal and child health services will improve the integration of birthing and family services and will be a great improvement for the community.
Aged care services will be improved by the introduction of the Montessori model of care at 70 Lowe Street.
The health service has been training staff at the 45 bed residential aged care facility so they understand the overall environment and focus of the approach.
The adapted model focuses on individuals’ capabilities.
It was first developed by Doctor Maria Montessori in 1893 to help children who were perceived to be mentally impaired.
