REIGNING premiers Moyston/Willaura were tipped out in the first round of the finals, something not known to happen in the last 50 years of Mininera League football.

Injuries to key players, particularly Lachlan Hamilton, started the downfall after he left the ground in the second stanza with the Pumas having the lead and seeming to have the ascendancy over the rivals. Suddenly their team balance was all at sea while Glenthompson/Dunkeld rose to a new level with spirit and courage to live to a further finals appearance.
Lismore/Derrinallum outclassed Penshurst in a lacklustre fashion last weekend and in my considered opinion both sides were not seeking to take on the Tatyoon football machine.
Tatyoon and Lismore/Derrinallum are after a direct berth into the 2015 grand final and both teams are confident of receiving their wish, as they both had a victory in their clashes during the home-and-away season.
Lismore/Derrinallum won at home by 50 points and Tatyoon reversed the result with a 73-point victory in round 16. The big Alexandra Oval will test the stamina of both sides although last week’s spell to Tatyoon may produce the advantage.
Monday, September 14 is the Lewis Medal count and trophy presentations for the 2015 season. A new award has been introduced in remembrance of the late Peter Gorst and his contribution to the MDFL.
It is appropriately named the Peter Gorst Volunteer of the Year Award. I am assured that the criteria set down by the Gorst family in providing the award will have the chosen volunteer person genuinely deserved of the award. The best and fairest will be held at the Caramut Hall.
The Lewis medal will not be broadcast on radio this year but will be on technical feeds of which I will provide in next week’s column.
Things such as Facebook, Twitter and all those items used by 30% of Australian down lookers will be providing the details to our audience.
With football using all types of technical equipment during the game, the future may produce an attachment for players that automatically tell them how to kick correctly or if they’re out of distance, pass it off and many other instructions. If this happens we may stay at home and watch the game on Twitter.
