Operation West Connect, which commenced on September 1 will see each police division targeting crime specific to their area based on current data and the level of social harm.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Craig Gillard said the operation was developed to address local priorities through a collaborative, cross divisional approach.
“We’re expecting this operation to be really beneficial for the whole region,” he said.
“By focusing on what matters in each area, but also working together as a whole region, I think it’s going to have a really positive impact.
“We’re also going to be sharing staff among divisions to enable them to further target their crime priorities.”
Some divisions will target crimes like aggravated burglary, theft from motor vehicles and the theft of motor vehicles, while others will look to improve firearms compliance.
“We will have a strong and visible presence among the community,” Act AC Gillard said
“We want members of the public to know that we’ll be out and about in the community and not to be concerned if they see us around in greater numbers.”
