Competing across six events means Pilgrim will keep up a busy schedule during the tournament which runs from September 5-7.
He said he had not done a lot of shooting in NSW and the state championships, which are being held in Wagga, will provide competition with some different shooters.
“This will be my first time at the event and it would be good to win something up there,” he said.
“I am hoping to bring back some sort of medal or placing.”
His preferred events are the champion of champions and the 50 targets, double barrel event.
Pilgrim said it was these events he wanted to win most, particularly the champion of champions which requires shooters to cover a number of different skills.
“I’d like to take something out of NSW so I can say I won something there,” he said.
The event will provide Pilgrim with a chance to practice in a high pressure environment ahead of the Victorian state championships later this year. It will also see him involved in the national development camp in the week leading up to the shoot in Wagga.
Pilgrim doesn’t lack confidence and said he thought he could match NSW’s best shooters.
“I am pretty confident that I am up there with most of them,” he said.
