Mr Mullen joins the club’s longest-serving treasurer, Gerard Kelly and second-year secretary Annette Metcalfe as leaders in what is gearing up top be another busy year.
Elections were held in February and the trio took over on June 24, which gave them plenty of time to plan for 2015-16.
This is Mr Mullen’s first time as president of Ararat Lions Club, although he has held similar positions elsewhere.
“It’s been a bit busy to start with, there’s been a fair bit happening,” Mr Mullen said.
“There’s annual general meetings that we’ve been invited to attend. But it’s all fun, all part of the job and I’ve got the time to do it.”
The club is helping to renovate the Ararat Scout Hall as well as providing its weekly Saturday morning barbecue in Barkly Street (rain, hail or shine), cooking for various events and selling fire wood and sheep manure with all funds going back to the local community.
