The 57-18 victory keeps the Hawks four points ahead of Moyston/Willaura on the ladder and sees them sitting in fifth position.
The Hawks played a discipline game of netball and were able to finish off some great passages of play. Maggie Astbury was creative both in and around the circle and has really grown as a netballer this season for Tatyoon. Sara Kinnersly, who has been missing for a few weeks, made a welcome return to the team at goal shooter, and later changing to goal attack, combined nicely with Maggie in the circle.
Tatyoon’s defence combination of Simone King and Catherine Phillips was formidable, with the two players combining and reading each other well. Tatyoon went on win comfortably and will be looking to retain their position in the five with only four rounds remaining.
Players in the game between SM&W Rovers and Glenthompson/Dunkeld found the windy conditions tough in their encounter at Mininera.
SM&W Rovers jumped out of the blocks early and established an early break in the quarter before Glenthompson/Dunkeld reined them in to be level at quarter time. The Rams’ defence tightened up in the second quarter and they held a 15 goal advantage at half time. The third quarter was far more even but Glenthompson/Dunkeld were able to make the most of the turnovers. They went on to win 67-49 and remain in top position on the ladder.
Woorndoo/Mortlake put on a very polished team performance in its comfortable 80–22 goal win over Wickliffe/Lake Bolac. The Magpies defence, headed by youngster Annabelle Millear never stopped trying but could not put enough pressure on the Tiger’s formidable attack.
The encounter between Ararat Eagles and Great Western was well contested in what were very windy conditions at Ararat. With both teams evenly matched across the court, players worked strongly for possession. The mid court dual between Ararat’s Jamie Lee Bennett and Courtney Morrow was interesting as both players are pivotal in their team’s play down the court.
Great Western’s Erin Freeland was stoic at goal keeper and overturned the ball on numerous occasions, limiting Ararat Eagles’ options into the ring. Ararat Eagles converted turnovers, and they went on to win 38-30 in a very even contest.
In an important match for both teams, the clash between Moyston/Willaura and Lismore/Derrinallum was keenly contested.
Pumas looked a little more settled this week and welcomed Georgie Eastick back into the centre role. The teams played some strong netball but in the end, Moyston/Willaura came away with a 13-goal victory.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur got away to a blistering start but were unable to sustain the momentum as Penshurst went onto record an eight goal win, 37-29.
