Road users in Ararat and St Arnaud were targeted, with a number of notices handed out.
Sergeant Shaun Allen from Ararat Police said more than 50 vehicles were intercepted with tickets for unregistered vehicles, fatigue management for heavy vehicles, work diaries not up-to-date and other offences recorded.
"We have issued quite a few defect notices, which means they are going to have to repair the car within seven days and have it cleared at a VicRoads office," he said.
"We've seen the usual ones like tyres. Especially in the lead up to winter, having quality tyres is non-negotiable, it must happen. You'd be surprised at some of the conditions we've seen.
"Non-working lights are also one of the common offences, window tinting is a regular one we are checking for now and we've also found some windscreen protrusions as well."
Sgt Allen said drivers should also be aware that registration plates can cause un-roadworthy issues and to maintain regular checks on their cars to ensure they are up to an appropriate standard.
With winter well and truly set in, police are also warning drivers to take care on the roads.
As well as ensuring that cars are roadworthy, police are urging drivers to drive to the conditions, with wet weather, fog and frost to look out for.
Drivers should also look out for the road conditions, as wet weather can damage roads and cause potholes to appear.
Northern Grampians Highway Patrol’s Sergeant Stuart Gale said drivers need to drive to the conditions and be aware of their surroundings and of the excess rain on the roads.
“The issue of road conditions is a problem, so contact either VicRoads or your local council if you notice bad road conditions,” he said.
In the Ararat region, fatigue and distraction driving continue to be issues police deal with and Sgt Gale reminded people to drive to the speed limit and speed conditions.
