Michelle has made more than 200 hand-stitched tapestry 'flashcards' with text sourced from fragments collected through found statements, email subject lines, sticky notes and conversation grabs. Through public workshops participants are invited to play with these 'flashcards' to construct new phrases and meanings.
In June Michelle was based at Marian College, Ararat, working with students and also holding a workshop for the wider community. Project participants were invited to play with the 'flashcards' to construct new phrases and meanings. After making their selection participants then had their photos taken with their chosen flashcards.
The documentation of this process forms the basis of Michelle's exhibition at the Ararat Regional Art Gallery from July 18 to August 30. This multi-media exhibition comprises projection, sound and stitched works. The exhibition will be formally opened on Saturday July 18 at 1pm.
