When Nepal was faced with disaster following the multiple earthquakes and landslides in April, the school's prep students began discussing the disaster after seeing images on the TV.

Teacher Tammie Meehan said the preps were concerned about the families and children that live in Nepal and decided that they wanted to help the children and make a 'Mountain of Money…just like Mount Everest'.

"In their own words 'Nepal needs our help'," Ms Meehan said.

"They came up with the name 'Power of Preps' and decided they wanted to have a fundraising table at the doors of Woolworths 'just like the adults do' and raise some money.

"They also wanted to hold a 'Power of Prep PJ Day' at school and sell cakes and hot chocolate."

The school is donating money raised to the Oxfam Australia Earthquake Appeal.

The big day arrived and the preps walked up to Woolworths, set up their table for 40 mins and were extremely well supported by members of our local community, raising $275.

"We were stunned when three Marian College students walked up to Woolworths to give us money that they had been secretly raising for weeks to support the prep students. They raised a little over $191."

In all the preps succeeded in raising $1300 in a week.

This money can help Oxfam provide clean water, soap, blankets, and portable toilets for over 118 families.

"It is wonderful that they are reaching out beyond the walls of their classroom and making global connections," Ms Meehan said.

"They are learning that even though they are young, they are still powerful and can help other people.

"Watching them interact with members of the community at Woolworths was priceless."
