The event was a joint initiative of the Ararat Community Action Network (CAN) and local Government schools, which had identified cyber safety as a key issue facing young people.
About 500 students from regional schools attended presentations by Project Rockit and Bully Zero, with a number of interesting exhibits and lots of giveaways for young people during the day.
As well as the presentations, Bully Zero, Telstra, the Department of Education, Grampians Pyrenees PCP and the Central Grampians LLEN Engage! and FReeZA programs provided further information and interaction for the students.
In the evening, a very successful public forum was hosted at the new Ararat College Hospitality Centre with catering provided by the secondary school's VCAL students.
Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Paul Hooper officially introduced the 80 attendees to informative presentations from Project Rockit and Victoria Police.
Special guest, Joanna Weston from the Melbourne Vixens joined a panel of key personnel to answer any questions regarding online safety.
The competition to identify the social media icons also prompted lively interest and discussion, with prizes provided by Harvey Norman and the Central Grampians LLEN.
