The Association has shrunk to only four teams this season after Lake Bolac and Mortlake were unable to field teams and withdrew from the competition.
A vote at the AGM in September to continue with the competition proved to be the right decision as a high standard of tennis continued each Saturday despite the drop in numbers.
"When it came to the grand final we decided to follow a slightly different format this year," president of the association, Andy Tucker said.
"As we have been playing each other so many times during the season we decided a finals' series wasn't warranted, so teams who finished first and second on the ladder would play off for a grand final and teams in third and fourth positions would just have a social match on grand final day until afternoon tea time and then all four courts would be available for the mixed sets to be played and we would then have a ready-made audience to watch these games."
Tatyoon and Willaura played out the social match in what turned out to be an enjoyable afternoon for all players, with some good match ups between the teams.
The grand final was contested between top team on the ladder Mininera and last year's premiership winners Yalla-Y-Poora.
The excitement was building after the completion of the first two sets, with the set score tied at two all and Yalla-Y-Poora ahead by just one game.
Mininera found its form in the second half of the doubles, taking one ladies' set 8-0 to finish five sets to three at the afternoon tea break.
Despite strong performances by the husband and wife teams of Melissa and Michael Hope and Nick Bush and Celine Joyce, Yalla-Y-Poora's dreams of back-to-back premierships turned to dust.
Mininera proved too strong, taking three of the final four sets and the match eight sets 72 games to four sets 61 games.
It was a popular win to Mininera, which hasn't had its hands on the trophy for 20 years.
The Mininera Association is hoping to expand again next season with a team from Skipton interested in joining the competition. Skipton hasn't been a part of Saturday afternoon tennis for more than 10 years when its Association folded due to lack of numbers.
