The Ararat and District Aeromodellers' Club is once again hosting the 3D Hobby Shop Australia Fly Low In event, which will see some of Australia's best radio control aerobatic planes and pilots attend the fun fly, held over three days.
If you've never seen radio control aircraft in action then this event is the one event to attend, with its action packed aerobatic flying style.
The format of the event is a relaxed affair, with participants encouraged to fly at their own free will and as much as possible to ensure that spectators are always being entertained.
A wide selection of aerobatic planes will be on display with some planes as large as three meters in wingspan. Such planes are powered by petrol powered motors up to 175cc in size and weigh 20kgs, costing in excess of $6000.
"Being the one and only radio control aerobatic flying specific event in the country, this fun fly event draws participants from as far as Tamworth and Adelaide," event organiser Andrew Sill said.
"Participants are all avid aerobatics fans and take a lot of pride in not only their aircraft, but their flying and they all love putting on a show for the crowd."
The aerobatic style of flying that will be on display will range from the more sedate sport flying to hard core freestyle routines that defy gravity. Some planes will also feature smoke systems like their larger cousins which greatly add to the spectacle.
"The pilots love coming to this event in Ararat, as not only are the facilities amongst the best in the country, but the township is well placed to support such events with adequate accommodation and great hospitality from establishments such as the local RSL, who is a proud supporter of the local flying club," Mr Sill said.
The Ararat and District Aeromodellers' Club was established in the early 1950s and is as strong as ever, with more than 40 members from around the region and as far away as Melbourne.
A large attraction is its 350 metre long runway and open flying space, which provides ample room for all types of aircraft to be flown.
The club lost its long-time president and club stalwart, Moss Heard last year, but his legacy lives on in the club with his philosophy of welcoming all still fostered by a dedicated committee.
The club encourages anyone that may be interested in taking up the great hobby of radio controlled flight and provides training to newcomers, but be warned - You will soon find that your plane hangar will be full.
The event is organised and supported by Melbourne based hobby business, 3D Hobby Shop Australia, a reseller of high quality radio control aerobatic aircraft and follows a long tradition of its US affiliated company that runs similar events throughout the US.
The 3D Hobby Shop Australia Fly Low In event will be held between March 7-9 at the Ararat club field at 228 Warrak Rd, next door to the prison.
Flying commences at 9am each day and concludes at 5pm.
Spectators are welcome and will be able to view planes as well as mingle with the pilots. A fundraising raffle will be run with a number of model planes up for grabs, so be sure to buy a ticket.
Entry is free, so if you are an aviation fan or looking for a great family day out then visit the Ararat and District Aeromodellers' Club this Labour Day long weekend.
