LAKE BOLAC's Nicholas McIntyre was awarded the Ararat rural City Young Citizen of the Year yesterday as part of Australia Day celebrations in Alexandra Gardens.

Mr McIntyre was selected because of his leadership and numerous associated achievements.
Mayor Cr Paul Hooper said Mr McIntyre has a strong sense of responsibility and care for his community especially as a CFA volunteer and lifeguard.
"He is dedicated and proud to be able to help his community stay safe and he is highly regarded amongst his peers and shows dedication when working amongst the community.
"Nicholas has also demonstrated care for those younger than himself by being a leader of the after school care program at the Lake Bolac College."
Cr Hooper said Mr McIntyre recently had the honour of being selected for one of the coveted positions on the Victorian Government Delegation to the Centenary of Anzac, 2015 Anzac Day Dawn Service in Gallipoli and will be an ambassador for the Ararat Rural City, his school and Australia as a proud descendant of an Australian World War I solider.
