The program celebrates summer exhibitions exploring fashion and design at the NGV including 'Express Yourself: Romance Was Born for Kids' and 'The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk'.
'Express Yourself! Kids on Tour' will take place during the summer holidays across regional Victoria, including Ararat, and run in conjunction with the 'Express Yourself! NGV Summer Children's Festival'.
Children and families can take part in Kids on Tour at Ararat Regional Art Gallery every day until January 26, with fun activities, including:
Jean Paul Gaultier - Temporary Tattoos for Kids: Celebrating the exhibition 'The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk', children and families will receive a temporary tattoo designed by Jean Paul Gaultier especially for Kids on Tour.
Express Yourself! An Activity Book for Kids by Romance Was Born: This special 'On Tour' version introduces Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett from Romance Was Born and includes images of their collections along with a range of drawing activities.
Romance Was Born - Make & Do: Children and families can collaborate with Luke and Anna from Romance Was Born to create their very own Romance Was Born accessory. Express yourself as you decorate a beard or necklace template with sparkly jewels, pompoms and googly eyes.
Kate Rohde: Pasta Bling on a String: Children and families are invited to make a piece of jewellery designed by artist Kate Rohde using familiar and readily available foodstuffs and items from the supermarket and hardware store.
Benja Harney: Paper engineer Benja Harney created an amazing bush canopy in 'Express Yourself: Romance Was Born for Kids', and especially for Kids on Tour 2015 he has designed a new paper cut-out of an Australian animal for children to fold and keep.
Storytelling: Encourage a life-long love of books by listening to some of Romance Was Born's favourite childhood stories beginning with the Australian children's classic 'Snugglepot and Cuddlepie' by May Gibbs.
The NGV wishes to acknowledge Tim Fairfax AC and Gina Fairfax for their generous support of the NGV Kids 2014/15 summer program. The NGV Kids program is supported by a grant from the Truby and Florence Williams Charitable Trust. This grant provides crucial encouragement to the corporate and philanthropic community to support children's programming at NGV.
