Milo T20 Blast is a modified version of cricket with participation the focus for both boys' and girls' teams, while fun is also an important element.
Free hits, extra runs for scoring in the double zone and bonus points for wickets gained are all rules for the modified game, which on the day saw plenty of accurate bowling, sixes and 12s hit, as well as plenty of 'classic catches'.
The Ararat carnival included 20 teams and close to 180 students from various schools such as Maroona, Ararat 800, Ararat West, St Mary's, Ararat North, Lake Bolac College and Stawell West.
Taking out the boys' final was the Ararat West PS (1) team, which defeated Ararat 800 PS (1) 136 to 106. In the girls' final it was St Mary's on 94 which proved too good for Maroona PS on 64.
Winners of the grade 5/6 carnival in both divisions progressed through to the regional finals, which were held in Ballarat on Wednesday.
With students unavailable due to a grade six camp, Ararat West had to field another team at the competition, with that side eventually finishing 11th, while St Mary's was ninth overall.
The two local teams took on winning sides from the Ballarat, Castlemaine, Gisborne, Geelong, Colac, Maryborough and Stawell regional carnivals.
