The Giving Box appeal encourages locals to buy gifts and help out people who may otherwise not have anything on Christmas morning.
All gifts donated through the Target and UnitingCare Giving Box go directly to the Ararat Emergency Relief committee.
These gifts are added to those left at King’s Cars in Ararat, and with food hampers, are distributed to local families in need this Christmas.
The Committee calls on the generosity of the Ararat community to donate gifts for babies, children and young teenagers up to 15 years of age.
Within the town there is also a big need for gifts for the elderly, as they are not always at the forefront of people’s mind when buying Christmas gifts.
Gifts for the elderly are sorted and packed by the local Ararat Uniting Church congregation and passed on to the Ararat UnitingCare agency.
They then distribute them with help from other aged care service providers identifying those elderly people who need some extra Christmas cheer from the community.
The Target and UnitingCare Giving Box appeal will run until Christmas Eve. The appeal is now in its 23rd year and, thanks to the support of generous Australians, has distributed over 1.7 million gifts.
“Here in Ararat the community has faithfully backed this appeal every year as a way of supporting the families in this area who are doing it tough and we look forward to their continued generosity as they donate to the Giving Box appeal at Country Target Ararat,” Nancy Curnow, UnitingCare representative from Ararat Uniting Church, said.
A large Giving Box is now displayed at the front of the Target store. Shoppers are encouraged to take a bauble gift tag to make a donation of a gift card at the register.
Alternatively they can purchase a gift and pass it on the staff at the register after payment.
Please make sure all gifts are unwrapped so the distributors can ensure that it suitable for the particular child and family.
Please help the local disadvantaged children, young people and frail elderly folk who live alone to have a brighter and happier Christmas.
