The grade four students — Mia Robb, Ivanna Donnan, Jessica Burns and Charlotte Walker — will compete in the girls 9/10 year-old 4x100m relay at the Victorian finals for Track and Field at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park, Melbourne.
The local team qualified for the state finals after winning at the Regional Championship in Ballarat last Friday.
Monday’s competition will see Robb, Donnan, Burns and Walker race in a heat, with the winners progressing through to the final.
Ararat West Primary School principal Terry Keilar said the students’ hard work and training had been paying off.
“The girls have been practicing their baton changes and relay over the past weeks and are very excited to compete in Melbourne,” he said.
“This is the first time the school has had a relay team make it to the state finals. We are really proud of their achievements so far and wish them luck for Monday.”
