In response to growing concerns in rural Victoria, the public meeting has been organised by the Central Victorian Refugee Support Network in conjunction with Amnesty International, Getup and the Melbourne Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
Mr Burnside will speak on a range of issues, including his ideas about accommodating asylum seekers in rural and regional towns. Further input and public discussion will follow a brief Q&A. The meeting will take place at 7.30pm in the Uniting Church in Barkly Street Ararat. Admission by donation. All welcome.
A group of Sri Lankan refugees were recently entertained in the district and were hosted by a number of families.
