According to the Bureau of Metereology (BOM) the town's average temperature for the month of September was 17.9 degrees Celsius which is 2.8 degrees above the long term average of 15.1.
Ararat has already enjoyed a string of days above 20 degrees so far this spring, the warmest of which occurred on Sunday.
After waking to a mild minimum of 13 degrees, Ararat topped 28.1 degrees.
The temperature was just 0.8 of a degree shy of the all time September record high temperature (28.9) reached on September 27, 1987.
Despite the daytime spring heat, winter hasn't been all that easy to forget with overnight temperatures close to normal.
Residents woke to a mighty freezing minus 3.6 degree temperature on September 19.
The temperature dropped to below freezing on another four occasions this month taking to 16 the number of below freezing mornings the town has experienced since April 27 this year.
The cool nights mean that overnight temperatures for the month of September were overall 0.3 of a degree below the long term average of 5.1 degrees.
Warm daytime temperatures have brought with them a lack of rain.
Wild weekend winds blew away any chance that the town would go close to recording its September average.
Don't be decevied by this week's slight falls, Ararat recorded only 23 millimetres of rain in September, just more than a third of the long term monthly average of 60.7mm.
Half of that rain fell across the first two days of the month. A further 7.7mm fell on September 9 and minimal falls were recorded Tuesday.
The Ararat region didn't receive any notable falls between September 10 and September 30 and October doesn't look any more promising.
The BOM has forecast above average temperatures and below average rainfall to continue across the region for the rest of spring.
Ararat's total rainfall figure for the year to date is now 331mm, well down on the long term average of 446.6mm.
The town has failed to record average rainfall for six of the nine months so far this year.
