As the weather continues to improve, earthworks, bridgeworks and road construction activities will increase between October 2014 and late March 2015.
Much of the activity will occur between west of Beaufort and east of Buangor as truck-and-trailers haul earth material from Box's Cutting to other site locations along the highway.
About 750,000 cubic metres of earth material will be moved - enough to fill 300 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The material will be used to construct sections of the new road formation between Beaufort and Buangor.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place, including reduced speed limits and warning signs, particularly at the main access gate just west of Beaufort where traffic controllers will be required and short delays may be experienced at times.
Works between Burrumbeet and Beaufort will also increase due to the warmer weather, with more activity on the highway and lane changes expected over the coming months.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, obey speed limit restrictions and roadwork signs and drive to the conditions.
VicRoads thanks people for their patience throughout the busy spring and summer construction period.
