ARARAT detectives are warning people who have already, or will soon vacate, homes along the Western Highway due to the duplication works taking place, to be vigilant of suspicious activity in the wake of burglary on a home.

A large billiard table and associated equipment, including a wood grain fluorescent light with a green fringe, pool cues and balls, worth in excess of $5000, were stolen from a vacant home on the corner of the Western Highway and the Buangor-Ben Nevis Road, Buangor, sometime between 12pm on September 10 and 2pm on September 17.
Detective Senior Constable Marcia Parry said police believe unknown offenders have attended at the vacant home and broken in by smashing a window.
She said all remaining items in the house had been previously removed by the owners and they were in the process of returning to remove the billiard table.
The offenders have then gone to a woolshed and stolen two red Sunbeam shearing machines, two hand pieces, a Sunbeam bench grinder and a water pump from the house.
All up goods stolen amounted to around $7,500.
Det S/C Parry warned home owners to be vigilant if they are vacating homes along the western highway.
"We have contacted people in the area to warn them and a vehicle was seen on the Tuesday in the vicinity of the house," she said.
Anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles near the property or who has any information is asked to contact Det S/C Parry on 5355 1500.
