TEN of the best young livestock auctioneers Victoria has to offer, including Ararat's Nick Gray, will compete in the 2014 ALPA Victorian Young Auctioneers' Competition on Monday at the Victorian Livestock Exchange, Pakenham in conjunction with the Royal Melbourne Show.

The 2014 ALPA Victorian Young Auctioneers' Competition is held in conjunction with the RASV.
Competitors will auction commercial cattle, through the sale ring, that have been earlier assessed as part of judging at the Royal Melbourne Show Prime Stock Competition and sourced by local agents from local producers.
Nick Gray, 20, has been in the industry for three years and is based in Ararat at Elders.
He sells weekly in Ballarat and has been doing so for two and a half years and is an AuctionsPlus Assessor for sheep.
Mr Gray wants to improve and advance his career through regular selling and developing his client base and what he enjoys most about his job is selling his clients' stock to the best of his ability.
Mark O'Sullivan, CEO RASV said this event creates a genuine commercial opportunity for producers and buyers, in addition to the already successful Beef Carcase competition currently run by RASV at the Royal Melbourne Show.
ALPA Auctioneers' competitions showcase the hard work and dedication of young auctioneers within the industry. The success of these competitors in perfecting the art of auctioneering is a testament to their personal commitment and the ongoing training and education they undertake. Some of which is with support and funding from the Victorian Property Fund on approval by the Minister for Consumer Affairs.
"Coming into the twenty-fifth year of the competition speaks volumes for the experience that young agents take away from the journey," says ALPA CEO, Andy Madigan.
"These young agents have made their way through ALPA auctioneers' schools throughout Victoria and NSW, taking what they can from industry professionals and speech pathologists in order to improve their selling style."
The ten finalists will be competing for the Graham Lanyon Shield. Prizes also include items from the Tenterfield Saddler, RM Williams and cash prizes. The winner and runner-up will compete at the 2015 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The beauty of the competition lies in its focus on the future of the industry. The competition is a consolidation of the education and continuing development opportunities the young agents, aged twenty-five years and under have experienced at ALPA auctioneers' schools.
The talent on display is a fitting testament to their professional development.
The ALPA Victorian Young Auctioneers' Competition continues to rally enormous support from influential industry members, most of whom the competitors have the opportunity to sell in front of.
