The expo is being brought to Ararat by the Kitty Committee, formed after The Biggest Loser, which manages the $145,000 prize money won by the Ararat community during the filming of the program.
The expo will be held at Harvey Norman from 11am to 3pm on Sunday and aims to promote the importance of healthy eating for life, share ideas for healthier eating, inspire the cook in us all and support the community to eat healthy, delicious food.
"The message behind Active Eat is to actively think about what and how we are eating," Katrina Pianta, from the Kitty Committee, said.
"We all know how important regular exercise is but I think that we don't know enough about nutrition for good health. ActiveEat will focus on how to make small changes for long term gains."
Throughout the day there will be a number of special presentations, which will include:
11.30am: Healthy eating with a dietician from EGHS.
12.30pm: Brassers Fruit Market - Healthy options for kids, bring the kids along and make some healthy fruit kebabs.
1pm: Scrumilicious - Gluten free demonstration and discussion, which will include ideas for gluten free and FODMAP diets.
1.30pm: Barrum Biodynamics - Cooking lentil dahl and discussion of clean eating.
2pm: Bellellen Grampians Organics - Cooking and tastings developed from their range of certified organic vegetables, complemented by their value added products.
Throughout the day there will be information, displays, cooking, giveaways and demonstrations, Harvey Norman will be demonstrating some of their products for everyone to try out and you can also submit your favourite healthy recipe at the Healthy Together stand to be included in the ActiveEat recipe book.
"I feel that this event will help raise awareness of what the local region has to offer," Kitty Committee member Sharon Basset said.
"There will be some amazing demonstrations that the whole family can enjoy. We are hoping to create a very casual atmosphere where everyone can relax and ask questions."
Sharon said the Ararat Kitty Committee believes strongly in helping everyone achieve their goals.
"It's through these type of events that we can do this. It would be amazing to see the community get involved and come check out this event," Sharon said.
"Everyone is invited!"
The expo kicks off at 11am on Sunday.
