The teams have only met once in season 2014 and the result makes for some sober reflection for the Hawks.
Tatyoon's shock 40-point loss to the Southern Eagles in round eight occurred during a mid-season form slump which saw them lose three matches in a row to teams including SM&W Rovers and Wickliffe/Lake Bolac.
The Southern Eagles claimed their biggest scalp of the season that round, catching the early break against the Hawks to lead by 27 points at halftime. Tatyoon was unable to peg back the deficit in the second half.
After 16 rounds of football not much separated the two teams on the ladder. Both teams finished with 12 wins for the season, the Hawks only second, from the Southern Eagles, which were third on percentage.
However, none of that will matter tomorrow as the winner looks to taking on likely grand finalists Moyston/Willaura next week.
Coach Jarrod Blandford said the round eight loss is behind them and he expects all of the players to line-up hungry for the win.
"That was a fair while ago, obviously because of that result they (Hawkesdale/Macarthur) will have a positive mindset going into the match," he said.
"But so should we, you're only as good as your last result and I think it's important not to dwell on that game."
Blandford said the result from the last time the two teams met shouldn't be on the minds of the players.
"I think we should go in with a positive attitude and a feeling that we have a good chance of coming away with the win," he said.
"On the back of our last two games where we've taken a positive step forward by playing some good footy."
Blandford said key to a good result will be his players putting in four quarters of solid football.
"One of the things we've noticed this season is the need for us to play more consistent football," he said.
"And especially when you get to this time of year, you don't win games of footy by only playing half a game."
Despite a round 14 loss to the premiership favourites (Moyston/Willaura) the Hawks finished the season strongly with some big wins.
Andrew Maconachie, Andrew and Tim McDougall, Arthur Armstrong and Kye Chapple have been consistent performers for the Hawks.
Chapple, Steve Butler and Mitch Cronin have been prolific where it matters most - in front of goal.
The trio have kicked 156 goals between them and been ably assisted by Brodie Mines (20) and Jake McCarthy (19).
Hawkesdale/Macarthur also go into tomorrow's qualifying final with three good wins under its belt.
The Southern Eagles' most recent clashes against Great Western and Woorndoo/Mortlake doubled as practice matches for the finals' contenders.
Although they were able to better Tatyoon in round eight, Hawkesdale/Macarthur has been unable to match it with its finals' rivals.
The Southern Eagles fell to Penshurst in round 13 and were smashed by Moyston/Willaura just a week earlier.
Tatyoon will be well represented in tomorrow's qualifying finals with its under 16 and reserves' teams each meeting Lismore/Derrinallum in the other matches to be played.
"It is something we pride oursleves on as a club, being successful at all grades and having all three grades go deep into finals," Blandford said.
"This year we've all got a chance to play in a qualifying final and that's a great thing."
On Sunday Penshurst will play Lismore/Derrinallum at Hawkesdale in the elimination final.
The loser will have no option but to bid farewell to season 2014 while the winner will front up next weekend against the loser of the Tatyoon/Hawkesdale Macarthur clash.
