The first three quarters went as expected for the Pumas, however the competition's benchmark team let a 34 point three quarter time lead dwindle to within a goal at full time.
Daniel Guinane kicked six of the team's 12 goals to be named best on ground for the Pumas in their 12.15 (87) to 12.10 (82) win.
John Vanderwaal, Lachlan Hamilton, Jackson Seres and Luke Thomas also made a big enough an impact to result in them being named among the best.
The minor premiers now enjoy a week off before returning in a fortnight to face either Tatyoon or Hawkesdale/Macarthur.
Tatyoon can breathe a little easier heading into the qualifying final after its 67 point defeat of competition rival SM&W Rovers.
The Hawks lead from the outset with seven scoring shots to one in the first term.
The Rovers were able to match it with their opponents in the second quarter by kicking four goals of their own.
The Hawks again broke clear of their opponents in the third term, turning a 17 point half time buffer into 39 points at three quarter time.
The Bulldogs were powerless in the last quarter as the Hawks kicked away to prevail 19.12 (126) to 9.5 (59).
Steven Butler starred in the forward line for the Hawks booting nine of his team's 19 goals.
Andrew Maconachie was awarded best on ground for another tireless effort. Tim McDougall, Butler, Damian Cameron, Sean McDougall and Cameron Gellie also named in the Hawk's best.
For Rovers, coach Joe Carmody, just as he has done on and off the field all season, lead the team to be named best on ground.
Benjamin Nankervis, Matthew Mulcahy, Bradley Scott, Rhys Cahir and Samuel O'Brien were also named among the list of top performers.
Wickliffe Lake Bolac finished its season off with a win, an emphatic 147 point thrashing of the Ararat Eagles.
Last year's premiers went into the match knowing they wouldn't be featuring in this year's finals' series, but this didn't stop them putting on a fine display, 23 scoring shots to six in the first half.
If not for the Magpies kicking nearly as many points as goals the margin would have been even greater come full time.
The Eagles were kept scoreless in the final term as Wickliffe/Lake Bolac ran out winners 26.23 (179) to 5.2 (32).
Wickliffe Lake Bolac had 11 individual goal scorers on the day, William Slattery kicking five of his own.
Jason Quinlivian was once against best for the Magpies, ably assisted by Nic Willox, Sam Archer, Bailey Veale and William Warner.
For Ararat, season recruit Lewis Baker again impressed, he was named in the team's best alongside Justin Bond, Daniel O'Connell, Naish McRoberts, Ben Roberston and Lachie Bond.
It was a disappointing end for Great Western as the curtain came down on its 2014 season with a defeat at the hands of Hawksdale/Macathur.
The Lions never looked in the contest as the Southern Eagles dominated the contest in the first quarter giving their forwards plenty of supply and leaving the Lions shell-shocked.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur piled on 13 scoring shots in the first term while the Lions managed just two points for the quarter as the game quickly slipped from their grasp.
Lions' coach Nick Thomas was less than impressed with the first term, pointing to the side's lack of effort and poor work rate as the key issues.
Thomas pleaded with his players to lift their intensity for the final three quarters of the match.
To the Lions' credit they responded, with consistent midfielder Lachie Malloy leading the way, he was in every contest for the Lions, with Sam Cocks, Rayne Salmon and Tom McCord providing some resistance.
The second half was more of the same from Hawksdale/Macathur which ran rampant on its home ground adding 16 goals to the Lions' five majors to run away with the match with ease, 29.14 (188) to 5.8 (38).
With Cody Virgona and Lachie Green finding a bit of the ball and defender Bobby Garley producing a fantastic second half the Lions were able to some extent reduce the influence of Hawkesdale/Macrthur's key forwards Benjamin Julius and Charles Nield, who both finished with 10 goals for the game.
Lachie Malloy was awarded best on ground for Great Western. Sam Cocks, Robert Garley, Rayne Salmon, Lachie Green and Tom McCord also named among the best performers.
In the most statistically significant match of the round Lismore/Derrinallum survived a final term surge from Caramut to qualify for this year's finals' series.
Going in to the match the Demons were only fifth on the ladder due to percentage. A win from the Swans would have been enough to knock them out of the race.
Fortunately for Lismore/Derrinallum it built a handy lead in the first three quarters of the match to hold on to the prized position and defeat Caramut 15.11 (101) to 13.6 (84).
In the remaining match of the round Penshurst delivered Woorndoo/Mortlake one last humiliation for the year with its 23.9 (147) to 6.15 (51) win.
