Ararat police investigate damage at disused mine

POLICE are investigating elaborate attempts to gain access to a disused mineshaft on the Green Hill Lake Estate.

Offender(s) are believed to have attached a chain or rope at the end of a vehicle and wooden panels placed at the entrance to the shaft.

In the process the vehicle was driven away and the wood panes ripped from the entrance in the offenders' attempts to gain access to the site.

The incident isn't the first of its kind, however this time those responsible are to estimated to have caused up to $5000 damage.

The act of criminal damage is believed to have occurred some time between August 1 and 6. Anyone with information should contact Ararat police 5355 1500.
