Thirty six honour boards, memorials, cenotaphs and avenues of honour have been identified and photographed throughout the region, with Society research officer Marion McAdie undertaking research on those who paid the supreme sacrifice.
The Society is calling on the public to help locate two lost boards.
The Ararat High School had a board made containing twenty-six names of past pupils who enlisted for service with the unveiling taking place on April 18 1916. Over the years, with the many extensions to the school, it is thought that perhaps a family may have taken it for safe keeping or to have the names reinscribed.
The whereabouts of the Norval Honour Board is also a mystery. The Ararat Advertiser reported an unveiling on August 28, 1917.
The board contained eight names in connection with the Sunday School and three of the men had fallen at the front, but unfortunately there is no list of the names. The board may have hung in the Norval State school which closed in 1944.
Mrs McAdie would like to hear from anyone who can help locate these boards and for anyone who may have photos relating to WW1. She can be contacted on 53524199 business hours.
