Paul Parker grew up in Melbourne and has been involved in the performing arts professionally since 1977.
Paul worked on and off as a professional actor between 1979 and 2002. He won a best actor gong in an ensemble cast for The Love of Freedom in 2001 in Los Angeles, USA with Danny Glover / Ben Guillory's Robey Theatre Company and a best actor in a television role in the Ballarat South Street Eisteddfod, Australia in 1998.
Paul has 17 television credits, including The Sullivans, Neighbours and Full Frontal in Australia and The Young and The Restless in Los Angeles, USA. Paul has appeared in 31 films (most of them short films), 17 professional theatre productions including four theatre shows in the USA and both The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival in Australia. Paul has also performed in 18 college or amateur theatre productions and has performed stand up comedy in 13 locations and busked professionally as a clown.
An accomplished director, he began directing and teaching in 1990 and has 21 directing credits, including Off Broadway in New York and San Francisco and Hollywood/Los Angeles in California and assistant direction at Melbourne Theatre Company in Australia on Lady Windermere's Fan in 1995.
A qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Education in drama, literature and language linguistics, Paul has also taught at university, TAFE, high and primary school levels and ran his own acting school in the USA for over nine years called AIDA - Australian Institute of Dramatic Arts, teaching throughout Japan, China, USA and Australia.
Paul now teaches both online on Skype and in person via the company Paul Parker Performance Coaching and also teaches sports players and presenters on how to perform for a television interview or for when they are on television panel shows.
This year marks the 31st year of the Ararat One Act Play Festival.
Eleven short one act plays will be presented, including three to be presented from the Ararat Theatre Company, on Saturday August 2 at the Ararat Performing Arts Centre, with three sessions of plays between 11am and 10pm. Admission is $12 per session.
