The two performers will hit the stage at the Ararat Hotel Red Room on Thursday, July 17.
These two young girls are making a name for themselves in the Australian music scene.
Rose has already received huge accolades and Al is certainly proving herself on the festival circuit with high praise from artists such as Liz Stringer.
Rose will be launching This City - the highly anticipated second single from her forthcoming mini-album Aurora - as part of a series of shows in July/August. Rose is an award-winning, enigmatic electro/folk solo artist from Melbourne. Ethereal, cinematic, yet intimate, her music has been likened to Chairlift, Little Dragon, Portishead, Massive Attack and Sarah Blasko. Rose snuck into the Australian indie scene with her acoustic folk-pop EP 'Warm Chocolate Heart' (2010). She is an active member of the Melbourne music community and has guest-hosted radio shows on Double J and Southern FM and also performs as a member of Halfshark.
In 2013 Rose was named Artist of the Year at the Australian Independent Music Awards and finalist in the prestigious Vanda and Young Songwriting Award.
Rose released 'This City' in June, the second single from her forthcoming mini-album 'Aurora'. 'This City' is a lush production of soaring vocals, rich textures, sultry emotion and driving rhythms - torn between melancholia and euphoria. It portrays a woman's struggle to stay true to herself and preserve her sanity while dealing with immense grief amidst the cold impersonality of a big city. Recorded in Alice Springs and produced by multi-award-winning artist/producer Dave Crowe, 'Aurora' will showcase new material refined in collaboration with some of Australia's finest songwriters (including Charles Jenkins, Angie Hart, Jen Cloher and Clare Bowditch and Mick Thomas). This mini album is due for release in August 2014.
Al Parkinson's performances make you feel like she is an old friend. Her relaxed presence and hilarious on stage banter is the perfect complement to her bluesy, soulful voice and wonderfully constructed songs of love and loss.
Al has shared the stage with some of Australia's most highly regarded acts including Matt Corby (Communion Melbourne), Liz Stringer, Bonjah and Jordie Lane. She has also secured international supports with David Ryan Harris (USA) and Ryan Keen (UK), to name a few. Al made her festival debut at Queenscliff Music Festival in 2012 followed by Apollo Bay Music Festival in April 2013. Since then she has been busy performing all around Melbourne, along the East Coast and South Australia performing at distinctive nights such as 'High Tea' (Sydney), The Reading Room Sessions and Band on A Boat (The Jam Room, SA).
Entry to the show is $20 and bookings can be made by contacting Dave Nicholson on 0409 848 960 or email: araratlive@davidsmedia.com with your details or check out the website. There is also a Facebook group 'Ararat Live'.
