With opening night a little over a week away, the cast and crew of the show are excited to be bringing this lively and hilarious show full of fabulous toe tapping numbers and heart wrenching songs to Ararat, the first time it has been staged by an amateur theatre company in Australia.
The show is set in the sleepy New England town of Eastwick, where the three not-so-wicked witches Alexandra Spofford (played by Amelia Kingston), Sukie Rougemont (Kellie Bywater) and Jane Smart (Maree Croft) are divorcees feeling trapped in their everyday humdrum lives. One stormy night, high on martinis and brownies, they make a crazy wish - for a man to make their own. But their wish has consequences they could never have dreamed...
A few days later, the mysterious and charismatic Darryl Van Horne (Ian McCready) arrives in Eastwick with a bang, taking over the local historical mansion to the horror of town doyen and president of the Eastwick Preservation Society, Felicia Gabriel (Mary Reid). The stranger from New York wastes no time in setting the three women free to plan their revenge on the conservative town. Darryl encourages them to find the magic within themselves, and they finally 'fly' across the New England night.
But too much of a good thing can't last forever...soon Alex, Jane and Sukie must face the consequences of their newfound passion for Darryl and the magic he can teach them.
People intending to buy tickets to The Witches of Eastwick should not compare it to the movie - the musical is smart, funny and full of the best songs you'll hear all year.
The Witches of Eastwick will be staged at the Ararat Performing Arts Centre on June 20, 21, 22 (matinee), 27 and 28.
